CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Norka Woodworks hardwood furniture is finished with a semi-waterproof top coat that resists water absorption. However, as with all hardwood furniture, observing the following precautions will provide years of enjoyment:

  • Use coasters with non-scratch bottoms when resting drink cups on wood surfaces.
  • Position furniture out of direct sunlight or adjust curtains during hours of intense lighting.
  • Keep solvents such as nail polish remover and alcohol away from wood furniture.
  • Keep furniture out of high humidity environments such as damp basements and sun porches.
  • Clean your Norka hardwood furniture with a brand-name dusting or polish compound and a soft cloth.
  • If your Norka convertible frame becomes difficult to operate, you can apply candle wax or paraffin to the tracks of the arms. Also, you may apply wax to the bottom of the seat deck where it rests on the front stretcher, and to the seat lock blocks if your frame is equipped with them.
  • If your frame is used on a wood floor, it is recommended that you install glides to the bottoms of the arms to prevent damage to your flooring.
  • Use care when moving your convertible frame (especially on carpeted floors). Using two people, lift the frame simultaneously by both arms. Never pull only one arm of the frame as this will potentially damage the stretcher rails.
  • Inspect the allen bolts connecting the arms to the stretchers for tightness six months after assembly or reassembly, and at least once a year thereafter and tighten as needed. If you feel any wobble in the arms, tighten them up immediately; loose arm connections are the most common cause of damage to any futon frame.
